Lehigh Valley faculty and staff recognized for excellence and contributions

Recipients honored for contributions to teaching, research, service and student success at All Campus Day

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Penn State Lehigh Valley recognized eight faculty and staff members for their contributions to teaching, research, service, student success and the campus community during its annual All Campus Day.

The awards recognize faculty and staff whose work demonstrates a commitment to students and colleagues while advancing the mission of Penn State Lehigh Valley.

"Our faculty and staff are at the heart of the experience we provide our students every day," said Tina Q. Richardson, chancellor of Penn State Lehigh Valley. "These award recipients represent the many ways our community supports student success -- through outstanding teaching and advising, meaningful research, service, collaboration and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed. I am grateful for all they contribute to our campus."

Teaching Excellence Award -- Full-Time Faculty: Alison Bonner

Bonner was recognized for her dedication to students and her commitment to making mathematics accessible to all learners. In addition to teaching and tutoring students, she has worked extensively with open educational resources and is developing an OER (open educational resource) textbook to help provide students with greater access to learning materials.

Teaching Excellence Award -- Part-Time Faculty: Lisa Guise

Guise was recognized for her patience, accessibility and commitment to helping students understand challenging course material. Students regularly seek her assistance outside the classroom and have consistently expressed appreciation for her support and approach to teaching.

Outstanding Research and Creative Accomplishment Award: Subhadra Ganguli

Ganguli was recognized for developing a research agenda spanning economics, sustainability, applied microeconomics and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Her recent work also explores the pedagogical and analytical potential of generative artificial intelligence, contributing timely scholarship in a rapidly evolving field.

Outstanding Contribution in Outreach and Service Award: Mark Capofari

Capofari was recognized for his extensive service to students, colleagues and the broader campus community. His contributions include strengthening internship opportunities in partnership with Career Services, revitalizing the Project and Supply Chain Management Student Club, advising students, supporting ROTC and veteran students, and serving on campus and University committees.

Outstanding Staff Award: Nicole Hallowell

Hallowell was recognized for her professionalism, collaboration and commitment to supporting students and colleagues. Her work includes advising criminal justice students, helping faculty navigate complex student situations, supporting admissions programs and contributing to events and initiatives for first-generation students.

For the Glory Award: Danyell Fondl

Fondl was recognized for the dedication, positivity and encouragement she brings to the campus community. Her willingness to support others, lead by example and consistently demonstrate kindness and respect reflects the spirit of the award.

Newcomer Award: D'Andre Miller

Miller was recognized for his ability to understand and respond to students' needs while helping them develop independence and confidence. His approach encourages students to take the lead, make decisions and trust their abilities while knowing support is available when they need it.

Academic Advising Award: Tara Koller

Koller received the Academic Advising Award, which recognizes a faculty or professional adviser who has made an impact on the student experience through outstanding guidance, encouragement and dedication. The award is based on student nominations, with the recipient selected by the Penn State Lehigh Valley Student Government Association.
